Last year, our friends at ENVE unleashed their first ever bike frame into the world, the Custom Road - and today, the ENVE Melee enters the fray. Building upon the design language and technologies of the Custom Road, the Melee is purpose-built for road racing, tested in both the lab and on the road to deliver the goods in every department, not least aerodynamics, handling, versatility and - ultimately - speed.

The Melee is offered in seven fixed-geo frame sizes ranging from 47 to 60cm (with five unique fork rakes), each with a generous maximum tire clearance of 35mm. Available as “chassis only”, the Melee comes complete with frame, fork, headset, handlebar, stem, and seatpost, with the latter three items selected à la carte to ensure the best possible fit - and performance - for each rider.

“When we decided that the time had come for ENVE to expand into bicycle frames, we knew that we needed to make our first bike here in Ogden, and that we wanted it to be custom. At the same time, we understood that due to the nature of custom, availability of the Custom Road would be limited. Our US manufacturing facility provides us the unique opportunity to design, prototype, and iterate at a much higher rate than we can overseas – especially over the past several years. The Custom Road is the result of this process, and it established a sound foundation upon which we have been able to iterate and create the Melee.

The Melee is a no holds barred modern race bike built specifically to meet the performance demands of the discipline. The Custom Road, while capable of racing at the highest level, prioritizes customization and personalization over specific race performance metrics such as weight, stiffness, and aerodynamics. The Melee features a monocoque construction which allowed us to refine the tube shapes, reduce weight, and increase the overall efficiency of the Melee.

In simple terms, Material Optimized Design means designing and manufacturing products that play to the strengths of carbon fiber. The materials, fiber weights, and fiber angles used in the laminate are selected and manipulated to achieve zone specific performance within the part. Carbon is the key ingredient, and we use the best we can get our hands on, but ultimately the process it is subjected to makes it an ENVE product.”

As a wheel, component, and now frame manufacturer, ENVE can do what many cannot - design the frame to complement ENVE SES™ rim shapes. By simply swapping out the SES™ wheelset and tires, one can change the Melee's personality to meet the needs of the day's objective.

SHAPED FOR SPEED

The Melee is designed to achieve efficiency from the second the air begins to flow over its surfaces. From the SES Tire and front wheel, to the fork legs, head tube, and beyond — The Melee is designed for speed.

VERSATILE PERFORMANCE

Versatility is the name of the game for the modern road racer. From criteriums to classics, one bike can do it all. This is largely accomplished with tire clearance.

Tire Clearance (As Labeled on Tire)

  • Minimum - 25mm (Less will adversely affect geometry/handling)

  • Maximum - 35mm

  • Recommended - 27 to 31mm (Geometry tuned for this tire range)

Application

  • 25 to 30mm tires for road racing

  • 28 to 35mm tires for mixed surfaces

DRIVETRAIN COMPATIBILTY

In addition to a wide range of tire clearance, the Melee is compatible with most drivetrain brands, models, and configurations on the market.

*Melee mechanical routing requires continuous housing from shifter to derailleur. This prevents some brand's front derailleurs from Melee compatibility.

With racing in focus, the Melee has been tuned for response, precision, and agility. Seven frame sizes aim to accommodate riders of all sizes and fit needs, while five unique fork rakes ensure that optimal handling is achieved regardless of frame size.
