Start the day off like we will all week, breakfast at La Fabrica, don't worry you will get to try everything on the menu before the end of the week. Then we will roll out of town soon hitting the lower slopes of of Els Angels, and 11km gentle climb leading up to the church where we will take a quick look at the views, mountains to one side and the Med to the other. Descending down we will shortly be on the Santa Paella climb, another gently 6km climb before descending and taking the back roads back into Girona. Another stop into La Fabrica for lunch and back to shower up and enjoy the siesta. Stroll down to Espresso mafia anytime for a little pick me up before dinner in the evening.
70km 1157m climbing
After another good breakfast we will set of around a shop favourite, heading out out of town with some gentle climbing and descending before the days main obstacle, affectionally known as the Moustache climb. After climbing up to spectacular views from the reservoir we start the Moustache with its spicy gradients for the first kilometre but after a section of flat to recover the rest of the climb slightly more forgiving. We will climb all the way to the top taking in the views from Del Mont. The ride home takes in a long downhill section before a short climb and the final cruise into town.
94km 1581m climbing
A trip to Girona is not complete without climbing one of it most famous peaks, the Rocacorba. This climb is steeped in history as a climb the Tour de France winners used as a final test to judge their form before heading off to the Grand Boucle. Being a founder of the Velo Club Rocacorba, the climb hold a special spot in the heart of David, as he spent many a training ride grinding out efforts on it´s relentless slopes. Suffering does bring reward however as we will be served a cup of Cava and some buttery Jamon Iberico at the sommet while taking in the views of Banyoles lake below.
Later that afternoon we will be treated to a private screening of Time Trial, a film chronicling the last season of David´s professional career.
73km 1518m climbing
A crown jewel of the week, the coast road is arguably the most beautiful coastal rode you may ever ride. climbing and descending along this serpentine route with the crystal clear med gleaming down below. We will stop at our favourite little pastry shop along the way and just take it all in as we go.
120km 1977m climbing
Our last day takes us to Banyoles where you can find the lake that hosted the rowing events in the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona. We will cruise along, share war stories of the past week, stop at the lake for a coffee taking in the views before rolling back into town for lunch. Enjoy a lazy afternoon, maybe pack a few things up before our farewell dinner at the CHPT3 Design Studio.
