Argonaut Cycles make truly custom carbon bikes out of Bend, Oregon, owning the entire process from carbon production to painting. They are driven by a singular purpose: to take your unique performance requirements and transform them into something real. Each layup is matched to each client, such that no two Argonaut geometries or layups are the same. The brand’s lead builder Ben Farver began his career with steel but, frustrated at being unable to control the materials, he started working with carbon. While most custom carbon fibre framebuilders work in the tube-to-tube method, Argonaut makes what Farver describes as ‘modified monocoque construction’ frames, moulding sections of a frame, such as the head tube with partial down tube and top tube, in single pieces before bonding them all together. This means fibres flow continuously across high-stress areas, meaning less material is needed to ensure strength, and, more importantly, there is wider scope to play around with the layup. More of the frame can therefore be tuned to serve the rider’s required characteristics. It is this level of extra refinement that raises Argonaut to the top of the game.

THE ARGONAUT GR3: a custom-carbon, race-ready, joy-riding, gravel masterpiece

“For us to create a gravel bike it needed to be truly fun for us to ride - the design impetus was to make a gravel bike that we think deserves to exist. It took us so long to design and make it because it was not obvious what the solution would be. The two primary goals were that it had to be super fun to descend on but also really responsive and satisfying whilst climbing. The solution entails having a slack front end, short chainstay and big fat tyre clearance. Custom carbon layup is our calling card, with frame stiffness from three directions of force - vertical compliance, horizontal bending stiffness and torsional bending stiffness - varied independently of each other and on a per customer basis. We’ve also remixed the durability of the GR3 vs our RM3 road bike for obvious reasons. In short, the GR3 is a go-fast gravel bike. It’s a pin it, ride it fast, ride it hard, gravel race bike - it feels lively going down hill and rips through corners.”

BORN IN GRAVEL

From day one, the GR3 was designed to address the needs of the modern gravel cyclist. At the core of the GR3 is the GravelFirst™ geometry, representing a major leap forward in gravel bike design. We addressed everything found on a typical “gravel” ride— a bit of road, a bit of smooth gravel, a bit of NOT smooth gravel, a bit of single track and long days out. We have given you ample tire clearance (up to a 50c tire), but with an industry best 415mm long chainstay, delivering a bike that jumps at every pedal stroke and carves through every turn. The 75mm bottom bracket drop, and slack 68.5º front end, makes the bike fly downhill, skip over ruts and rip through corners.

Your Argonaut journey starts with the correct GR3 Proven Geometry for you, and it continues with you through close collaboration with the Argonaut design team. Custom tailored carbon layup creates a bike uniquely tune to your body and riding style. Ride quality is personal.

• ARGONAUT STEM / Designed in-house for stiffness, durability, and fully internal cable routing, our stem length is incorporated into each customer’s geometry, optimizing your position on the GR3.

• CARBON LAYUP / Custom layup patterns and standard modulus carbon unique to the GR3 are designed to take a beating, soak up bumps and last a lifetime.

• ARGONAUT FORK / Balanced, responsive and rock steady at any speed, our A 57mm rake paired with 395mm axle to crown asks to go faster and take more chances.

• TIRE CLEARANCE / More stability, mores speed and more fun. The GR3 is made to run tires up to 700 x 50c.

• INTERNAL CABLE ROUTING / Refined cockpits allow easier access to handlebar bags, and make for easy cleaning.

• SHORT CHAINSTAY / Industry leading 415mm chainstays allow you to climb faster, carve corners, and sprint out of every turn.

• BOTTOM BRACKET / A 75mm drop makes the frame more stable in harsh riding conditions.
